FAQs & Public Service Tips: Student Needs

Info and tips for helping Sims Library users.

Finding W Numbers

New or returning students may not remember their W number.

  • If they don't have their student ID, any of the LS102 faculty can find their W number for them in LeoNet. under Campus Community.
  • Here's another solution, taken from the "LeoNet First Time Users" webpage:

They need to enter their social security number (no dashes) and their 6-digit birthdate (MMDDYY), and click on Find My Account.

Respondus Lockdown

Some instructors require that students use Respondus lockdown browser when taking exams in Moodle.

Library VMs have Respondus Lockdown installed.

Students who need to download Respondus on their personal device should visit Respondus.

The Student Help Desk can provide further assistance. Click here for contact information and hours of operation.

Math Lab

The Math Lab is located in Room 208 of Sims Library, and is operated by the Math Department.

Telephone number is 5867.

Hours for the Math Lab are posted at the Math Dept. Webpage

The Library Director and Dr. Tim Hudson, Head of the Math Dept. have agreed that math students use the second floor Math Lab, and not the other PCs the public service areas of the library for their My Math Lab work.

My Math Lab is a product of Pearson. Students need a access code and course ID from their instructors in order to log into the Pearson software.

Study Abroad

Southeastern offers Study Abroad opportunities during the summer. The International Initiatives website has helpful information.

Please note that the students who pay tuition for Study Abroad do not pay Student Tech Fees for their summer study abroad classes, and therefore have not paid for printing.

Options:

  • Pay to add prints to their account

http://www.southeastern.edu/admin/sps/printing/extra_prints/index.html

  • Purchase a print card at the Circulation Desk and print as a guest.

Proctoring -- Office of Testing

The Library does not proctor exams.

PROCTORING EXAMS

Students who need to take an exam which must be proctored should be referred to the University's Office of Testing in the Main Building, North Campus, Room 172. The Office of Testing will proctor exams for students with disabilities who are registered with the Office of Disability Services and, for a fee, students from other schools who find it more convenient to take an exam at Southeastern.

The University Office of Testing is located on North Campus

Dual Enrollment (formerly Early Start)

High School students and facilitators in the Dual Enrollment program are eligible to use the library's electronic resources from off campus.

For problems with logins, please contact Angie E. (x3955)

Additional information for Dual Enrollment students and instructors using library resources is available.

--------------------------------------

The instructors for these classes are high school instructors who have attended summer training sessions at Southeastern. The students pay tuition to Southeastern. All are given W numbers, but they do not get student ID cards. If they want to check out books, they must complete a form, available here or from their Dual Enrollment instructor, and return the signed form to the library with a photo ID. They will have a paper borrower's card which will enable them to check out books.

Instructors in this program are contract employees of the University; therefore, they have been given remote access to our databases.

* If these students come to the library, they can log into the green screen, but they CANNOT log into the printer server (because they did not pay student tech fee.)

* If students cannot log into the databases, please contact Angie Estes (LibTech) to see if they have been loaded into the PeopleSoft system. This is not done in the library, but we can advise the Dual Enrollment administrators that action is required on their part.

Tutoring

Free Tutoring is available through the Tutoring Center, which is part of the Center for Student Excellence.

The tutoring office is located in the Tinsley Learning Center, Room 202.

ESL Students (English as a Second Language)

ESL Students are issued W numbers and University ID cards. However, they do not pay Student Tech Fees.

Amber Brown and Office of Technology have determined these students do not need to use the Library. If they want to use the Library in the evening hours, please provide them with a temporary guest log in, even though they have W numbers.

They will be able to purchase a print card at the Circulation Desk, and (effective January 2017) print to the guest printer in the reference area.
