FAQs & Public Service Tips: Printing

Info and tips for helping Sims Library users.

Blank pages

Sometimes the VMs will print Blank Pages instead of the intended document.

To prevent this: download pdf files to desktop, download Internet pages or emails as text documents to desktop, and THEN print.

2) Go to Self Service (Left Sidebar), and then to Enrollment. Select My Weekly Schedule.

3) Your page will open up with the schedule for the first week of classes (August 18-24). Please click next week  so that you will see the entirety of your schedule for the semester.

4) Highlight  your schedule with your mouse and right-click print. You should see a print preview of just your schedule.

5) Print

Mozilla Firefox:

1) Open Mozilla Firefox Browser to LeoNet, Log In.

Color Printing

Color printing is available in the Student Technology Center labs in Fayard 126/129 and in Biol 210 (per Print Allocations webpage, summer 2019)

Fayard Hall Student Technology Lab Room 125 - Phone 2861

BIOL Lab 210 for Biology students - Phone 2036

We are keeping statistics on the number of requests received at the Reference Desk for color printing. The stat sheet is printed on goldenrod paper and is in the binder at the reference desk. Thanks for helping accumulate evidence for the need for a color printer in the library.

* As a courtesy, phone the lab before sending a student across campus to make sure that the color printer is operational.

Printing PDFs

Download PDFs to the desktop before printing from VMs, otherwise blank pages may print.

From the print menu, check the box, "Choose Source by PDF page size."

This eliminates the problem that the printer has in finding the correct paper size. The setting remains until the pc is re-started.

Duplex Printing

Duplex Printing, or printing on both sides of the page, is a feature available on many of the Sims Library printers:

Printers A, B, C in Reference and Printer A in Media can print 2-sided.

Printers in Serials print only 1-sided.

On all printers, the default setting single-sided prints. However, you can choose duplex printing by clicking a box on the print menu, "2-sided printing" before releasing the print job to Lion Prints. Please note that Lion Prints will charge users for 2 pages, even if using one sheet of paper.

Advantages of duplex printing:

  • less use/waste of paper
  • less volume and weight to carry around
  • sometimes students want to create 2-sided brochures or pamphlets
Be awareSome instructors require single-sided prints for research papers and assignments.

Guests Printing from Microfilm

Library guests who want to print from microfilm reader/printers MUST:

1.) Register as a Guest User

2.) Purchase a print card

3.) Determine the microfilm number using the online catalog. Help with this is available in both the Reference and Serials public service areas.

4.) Find the microfilm reel(s) in the Serials Room.

5.) Log into a computer near microfilm reader (Serials Room)

6.) Load the microfilm, find the desired images, follow directions on the placards.

7.) Save images to the desktop.

8.) Open the file and send to the elara Guest printer.

9. Ask Reference personnel (on 1st floor) to release the guest print job.

10. Have purchased prints marked off green or blue card. (Serials staff)

11. Log off PC

Note: Individuals who have a W number but are not current Southeastern students (current faculty or staff, alumni, former or retired University employees, NTCC students, dual enrollment students , etc.) can use their W numbers to log into the public VMs. However, they may need to re-set their passwords. This can be done at the Reference Desk if they have set security questions in the past. Otherwise, they will need to go to the Help Desk in McClimans Hall Room 111 with a photo ID.

Printing PowerPoint Slides

1). In PowerPoint, with your presentation open, click File then Print.
2). In the Print window, in the Settings section, click the Full Page Slides drop-down menu.

3). In the Handouts section of the drop-down menu, choose a multiple slide handout.

4). If you want to take notes on your printouts, choose 3 slides. This will give you lines to the left of each slide for in-class notes.

5). Click Print to print your document.

*Make sure PowerPoint is not printing background graphics or dark backgrounds. This can cause problems with printers -- such as paper jams.

Need Prints?

Southeastern students pay a Student Technology Fee each semester. Those fees provide each registered student with printing in campus computer labs operated by the Office of Technology and in Sims Library productivity areas.

Lion Prints or the "print release" system tracks the number of prints that each student uses. Student who exceed their individual print allocation can purchase additional prints.

Need Extra Prints?   To purchase extra prints, please go the Student Technology webpage and follow the steps to pay online.

Note: Controller's Office will NOT accept cash --- only Lion's Lagniappe or credit card. You can also purchase extra prints.
