Students in the Honors Program can write an undergraduate thesis. These are being digitized and linked in the Library Catalog.

Search for: honors senior theses in the word/phrase search in the library catalog.

Senior Communications Theses

Senior Communication theses are now in the library catalog (Books & More tab).

  • Search for communication senior theses (as word or phrase)-- to pull up all of the theses. You can then narrow the search by: semester; year; Area (if provided); Methodology (if provided); or Keywords.
  • You can also search by communication senior theses and Top Paper (Word or Phrase) if they want to bring up only those theses which received that award.
  • Search by individual title or author.

There are over 600+ theses in this collection.

If the thesis earned the distinction of Top Paper, that is also included in the record."

OPAC Training: Learning Call Numbers

OPAC = Online Public Access Catalog

RMA Guides for Finance Class

Every semester FIN 381/382 students have the option for an extra credit assignment using the Annual Statement Studies published by the Risk Management Association, ready reference call number HF 5681.B2 R6. Some students may request the Robert Morris Associates books because they were listed as authors on earlier editions.

The library owns these books back to the 1990 edition. Earlier editions are located on the 4th floor, call number HF 5681.B2 R6.

We keep the 2 most recent editions in Ready Ref.

In spring 2018, Dr. Tom Meyer, instructor for this class, wrote, "I believe that the students should physically come to the library and ask for the data scan." Please do not scan and email the students the scan if they phone, email or request scans by chat. Part of the assignment is to use the library. These are not distance learners, and the books are not e-books.

They must photocopy the 2 pages across for their NAICS code.

They will need an NAICS code. They may have only an SIC code or a company name. There are several ways to get an NAICS code.
  • The Mergent Online database: search by company name or on the right side, use classification search
  • Business Source Complete>Company Information (at top)>search by company name>select the correct company>scroll down, click on Industry+
  • LexisNexis Academic: Get Company Info>search by company name>select correct company from list>SIC and NAICS codes are in Industry Classification box

Please be sure to capture the book usage by scanning the bar code at the reference desk.

Center for Southeast Louisiana Studies

The Center for Southeast Louisiana Studies is part of the Department of History and Political Science. It is physically located on the 3rd floor of Sims Library, and also serves as the Library's Special Collections and Archives Department, housing "rare" books and manuscript collections.

The books in the Center are listed in the Library Catalog. The location found in the library catalog is: 3rd floor Center for SE Louisiana Studies.

Books located in the Center do not circulate.

Other materials located in the Center are listed on their webpage, under Historical Collections.

One frequently requested collection is the surveys and local land maps by local surveyor  W. A. Tycer.

* The Center's hours are different than the Library hours, and you should check their webpage or phone for current hours.

LOUIS Reciprocal Borrowing from LA Academic Libraries

Reciprocal Users are people who are current students or employees at other libraries and universities in Louisiana. With a LOUIS Reciprocal Borrower's card, these users have circulation privileges at Sims Library. They can checkout books, but not library technology or study rooms. They do not have remote access to Sims online resources or ILL privileges.

  • Reciprocal Users may purchase a Print Card from the Circulation Desk.
  • Reciprocal Users may use SLU-Guest wifi.

Southeastern students and employees can obtain a card at the Circulation Desk which enables them to borrow materials at other college & university libraries in the state. Here is the application form.

The LOUIS brochure provides information on who may borrow at these libraries.
