One of Louisiana’s greatest strengths comes from its diversity of voices and traditions. Just as it takes more than one ingredient to make a gumbo, it takes all cultures to make Southeast Louisiana what we love today. This diversity of voices is heard best in our rich musical heritage. Louisiana artists were pioneers in jazz, rhythm & blues, and gospel, and played a role in developing many others such as rap, bounce, and hip-hop.
