DUTIES
- Reporting to the Head of Reference/Instruction, this position serves as a member of the Reference team in providing reference and instruction services to students, faculty, staff, and the local community using print and electronic resources.
- Provides reference service (in-person and via phone and electronic transmission) to students, faculty, staff, and the local community using print and electronic reference tools as well as other library resources and services.
- Provides formal and informal instruction in the use of print and electronic information sources. Formal instruction assignments include library tours, "one-shot" bibliographic instruction sessions and the library credit course, LS 102.
- Staffs the Reference Department on Sundays and evenings when the library is open, resulting in a 12:30 - 9:00 PM schedule Sunday through Thursday (during the regular school year); summer and intersession hours vary.
- Serves as building supervisor on Sundays and during evening hours. In this capacity, the Evening Reference/Instruction Librarian serves as a resource person for staff, graduate assistants, and student assistants in all library departments and identifies, addresses and/or reports needs and problems as required.
- Directs reference graduate assistants and student assistants in their evening activities and responsibilities. Assists Reference Library Specialist 3 in hiring, and training reference graduate assistants and student assistants.
- Oversees the maintenance of the Reference Room and supervises student workers in duties necessary for this maintenance (e.g. shelving, shifting, filing, and weeding).
- Acts as liaison to academic departments as assigned.
- Performs other duties as assigned to support the service initiatives of the Department and the Library.
REQUIREMENTS
ALA-accredited MLS degree.
