Louisiana Documents - Overview

Sims Memorial Library was a selective depository for Louisiana state government publications from 1962 to 2016. Like the federal government, the Louisiana government produces several types of publications on many subjects. The subheadings to the left collect publications of a particular type for ease of navigation; below you can find some descriptions of each type to help you decide which is most likely to have what you need.

Directories, Manuals, and Handbooks provide descriptions of their subjects, whether it be programs, agencies, or departments. These sources are useful when looking to gather background information and key details to start your research and identify potential sources of more in depth information.

Indexes group information together in a particular way, such as by subject. These are useful when you are trying to find bibliographic information and potential sources of more in depth information.

Laws & Regulations are sources relating to the legislative process and various laws of Louisiana. These include Congressional documents, regulations for agencies, and gubernatorial documents.

Statistics are sources of statistical information in various subjects, including crime and education. The coverage of the statistics varies, but can usually be found at the state and parish level.

Websites are official websites of Louisiana government departments and agencies. These websites contain valuable resources related to the particular group in question and the areas which they oversee.
