"Intellectual property (IP) refers to creations of the mind, such as inventions; literary and artistic works; designs; and symbols, names and images used in commerce." (from the World Intellectual Property Organization)
The most common types are copyrights, patents, trademarks, and trade secrets. As a student, you must respect others' intellectual propoerty. You cannot represent others' works as your own. What you find on the Internet is the IP of someone else.
