Faculty authors should consult the publisher contracts they signed when the article was published. The contract will generally include information on authors' rights, what types of permissions might be needed to post online or distribute to students.

Library databases allow direct links to many journal articles. Linking to an article, rather than posting a copy, ensures compliance with copyright restrictions.
| EBSCO databases | Look for PERMALINK under TOOLS on the right hand side of the record |
| ProQuest databases | Right-click on Citation/Abstract; copy link locaton |
| JSTOR | The URL that appears in the browser bar of the article summary page is the persistent link for that article |
| Project Muse | Click on Export Citations, and copy the Stable URL |
