Wikipedia? Google Scholar?

Websites like Wikipedia and Google Scholar are not all bad.

Wikipedia articles are written by volunteers, and many are written by authorities in their fields. But there is no vetting required to edit Wikipedia articles. You can use the references at the bottom of a Wikipedia article to find good sources.

Google Scholar is an open-access database of scholarly literature.

Advantage: It's free. Disadvantage: You do not have the same search refinements and links to paid content as the library databases. Use it if you wish, then check to see if the library has paid for the full text of the articles you find.
