Government Information

This guide presents information on Federal and Louisiana state documents. These resources are available through the Southeastern Louisiana University Sims Library and open access websites.

Top 10 Sources for Freshmen

1.  USA.gov - The official web portal for the United States government.

2.  Statistical Abstract of the United States: 1878 - 2012 (Census Bureau) or 2013-Present (ProQuest) - An excellent place to begin a search for statistical information.

3.  Occupational Outlook Handbook - This source is very helpful if you're still trying to choose a career.

4.  United States Government Manual - Gives a brief history and description of each department/agency along with contact information.

5.  Federal Student Aid - This site presents information about student loans, grants, scholarships, and so on.

6.  Louisiana.gov - The state's official web portal.

7.  Louisiana Office of Student Financial Assistance - These are the folks in charge of the TOPS scholarship program.

8.  Board of Regents, State of Louisiana - The Board of Regents (BoR) controls funding for Louisiana's public colleges and universities.

9.  Louisiana Facts - This page from the Secretary of State tells you the state bird, state musical instrument, and so on.

10.  Louisiana Festivals - This page from Louisiana's official tourism site will tell you about festivals being held around the state.  Get off campus every now and then and have some fun!
